Ancient Egyptians- Mummifying tomatoes practical

Written by Class 3: Today we mummified some cherry red tomatoes. At first they looked quite delicious but afterwards we didn't want to eat them! We did this because we are learning about the Ancient Egyptians and how they mummified the dead. Before we started, we observed the tomato and drew some labelled diagrams. First we had to make a small incision on the body (tomato) and take all the organs out. We didn't put them in canopic jars as it was really tomato seeds and juice- gross! Then we washed the tomato in anti bacterial hand wash but the Egyptians would have used the River Nile water and alcohol. After we washed it we got the natron mix which is made of salt and bicarbonate of soda and we filled the body and covered it. We placed the tomato in the bag but the Egyptians would have put the body in a sarcophagus.
