Class 6 - Fir

Today has been a success, despite not going on our planned trip.  We played some games in the hall and then visited the Old Priory Garden, which was lovely and shaded.  The children were relaxed and enjoyed being outside for their picnics.

Well done to George, who was our overall winner, Millie and Darcy were the most improved.

Our Sponsored Times Tables Challenge will take place on Monday 26th February.

The children have been given sponsor forms and details of the challenge.

The children are busy creating games for the Christmas Fair, which will be on Saturday 2nd December from 1pm - 4pm.  These exciting games will be in the year 4 classroom for everyone to play.

Well done to Charlotte, who was the overall winner in this year's Spelling Bee.  An exciting 'Spell-off' was held to find a overall winner out of those who had scored top marks.

Our sponsored Spelling Bee will be on Monday 20th November - there will be prizes for great spelling.  There are spare copies of the spellings in the classroom.

We are on the coach and have had a great week, despite the bruises and midge bites.  We all received out National Outdoor Learning Award and achieved something we didn't know we could do before this trip.
Everyone went caving yesterday and we're very proud of the teamwork they showed in the cave and on the high ropes. Today we are hiking and rock climbing on Dartmoor, fingers crossed that the weather is ok and the ice cream van is there.
We all slept very well after a  busy day.  The evening was a little wet but we still had a camp fire and built dens in the woods. They are looking forward to caving and high-ropes today.

Everyone slept well and we've all had a full English breakfast, hash browns are the favourite item.  Activities will start soon, today we will be doing the zip wire, crate stacking and kayaking.  This will be part of their National Outdoor Learning Award that they are all working towards.
We've arrived - 12:00 on the dot. All ok, the journey was good. Pizza for lunch and the lots of activities to look forward to.

We are really looking forward to our trip to River Dart next week.  Please arrive at school on Monday at 7:00am, the coach will be leaving promptly at 7:15.  Happy packing!

Year 6 have approached this week with maturity and enthusiasm, which has made us all very proud of them.

Today the school and class roles have been awarded.

‘Meeters and Greeters’ will be meeting new visitors to the school and leading school tours.  They will speak at new parent meetings and will tell visitors about the teaching and learning in their own class.

School Monitors will be role models for the rest of the school, they will be taking the lead in Collective Worship, being the journalists for our student newsletters and helping with KS1 lunchtime clubs and events.

Eco Councillors will be working with Mrs Knight leading the regular meetings and be our environmental ambassadors for the school.

School Coucillors will lead the regular meetings with Ms Jones and Mrs Wagstaff.  They will work with children and staff across the school, making decisions for whole school improvement.

House Captains and Vice Captain will lead their house teams in sporting competitions and events and will represent the school in various ways.  The weekly house cup will be awarded to the House Captains and Vice Captains each week alternately.

Welcome back to all the children now in year 6, we are looking forward to an exciting year.

We are now not only know as year 6 but are also known as Fir Class, as all of the classes have now been named after trees.

This afternoon the children, worked in groups, using limited materials, to protect an egg that would later be dropped from a height.  It was very egg-citing and their teamwork was egg-cellent!

More than half of the eggs survived.
