Spring Term 2019
Our topic is ANIMALS.
Week beginning 11th February 2019
This week we are continuing our celebrations for Chinese New Year. The children will experience music and dance, role play opportunities along with Maths and Literacy linked to the festival.
Last week, the children used a range of musical instruments during PE, to accompany a Chinese lion dance. We will practise our moves to music , again this week. Watch this space for a video of our performance.
Our phonics groups will continue daily, which involves: games, reading and writing. Some groups have moved on to learn the Set 2 phonemes (ay, ee, igh etc).
In Maths, we will be learning about ordinal numbers 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc. through exploration of the animals' race Chinese new year story. We are counting daily, starting from any given number between 0-20. We are practising how to count forwards and backwards.
All children have now been to the Computing room to learn how to log on and access Purple Mash. They can now use the classroom computer and practise the skills taught.
We will continue to embed the school values into our daily life in Chestnut class; growing and learning together.
As it's a fresh new year, we have introduced 'Growth Mindset' to the children and we are encouraging them to see how their words can help them to change how they think. Dojo awards are linked to Growth Mindset.
