Class R - Chestnut

Chestnut Class notices for next week

Please bring Library books this Friday (6th) to be returned for the holidays. The children can pick new ones after the Christmas break.

Reading books will be collected next Wednesday (11th) and the children will get their new ones after the Christmas break. There will be some fun holiday homework to have a go at instead.

Due to the Christmas show, there will be no Show and Tell next week.

Collection on Monday 2nd December

Please can Chestnut Class parents/carers collect their child from the main gate on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 3.00pm. Due to building work, it will not be possible to collect from the door.

Thank you!

Thank you Chestnut Class for making Mrs Stacey feel so welcome! It has lovely been getting to know you all and I'm sure we will have lots of fun in the next few weeks - although we are missing Miss Cork and hope she is recovering well.

This week we have been continuing to learn about nocturnal animals. The children have helped turn the role play into a dark tent and we have talked about the differences between night and day. They have made shadow puppets to use with the torches in the tent, made owls and bats and we have had a pretend campfire where we sang songs and drank hot chocolate!

smiley Welcome to Chestnut Class with Miss Cork,

Miss Dye, and Miss McCatty smiley

Please find a range of useful information listed below. We also keep this page up to date with photos of the children learning and key information about what is happening in our class.

NOTES -

  • Books will now be changed on a Wednesday (starting 13th November). Please ensure reading books and records are in book bags on a Wednesday.
  • If you have any small recyclables, please bring them to school for our junk modelling. Cardboard kitchen rolls and egg boxes are always popular.
  • If you have any empty plastic sauce bottles we would love them for our creative area.
  • Please keep water bottles filled up and out of book bags. We have given out school reading books now and would like them to stay nice and dry! Thank you smiley

Autumn Term 2019

Nocturnal Animals

Useful information about the Reception year can be found here...

https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/school-year/school-year-guides/what-to-expect-in-reception/

Week beginning 11th November 2019

Our topic for the coming weeks will be Nocturnal Animals. We will be linking our learning to stories and will start with the beautiful story Owl Babies by Martin Waddell. We will have discussions about animals and why certain animals only come out when it's dark, and we will sort animals into groups.

In Maths, we will be looking at 2D shapes in more detail, exploring number possibilities and will learn about estimation.

In Phonics, we are very busy in our individual groups. Please see the Phonics section for more detail.

We will be involved in lots of creative activities around the theme of Owls and we will do cooking, computing and PE.

We will encourage the children to be 'Learning Superheroes' and will talk about the 'Characteristics of Effective Learning' which is the Early Years equivalent of our school's 'Growth Mindset' (see link below for more details).

We will embed the school values into our daily life in Chestnut class; growing and learning together.
