Spring Term 2020
Useful information about the Reception year can be found here...
Week beginning 24th February 2020
What an amazing first half of the spring term, we have already had. We hope you enjoyed coming into school to see what the children have been busy designing and making.
This week we will be learning about the different periods of time in which the dinosaurs lived, what their habitats looked like, and which dinosaurs were around in each period. We will look at maps and globes and make comparisons between the present and the past. We will find natural objects from the outside environment to make fossils (imprinting into clay or salt dough). We have many more dinosaur stories to read and vocab to explore. We have a dinosaur dig role play outside and a museum inside...but we will be asking for ideas from the children, to change these soon.
In our PE session, we are going to be dancing to the Jurassic Park theme tune...pretending to be dinosaurs, hatching and growing!
This week in maths, we will be focusing on positional language. The children will learn how to use our programmable Bee Bots. We will continue counting on and back from a given number between 0-20 and we will master how to write the numerals.
In phonics, we are very busy in our individual groups. Please see the phonics section and click on the groups for more detail.
We will encourage the children to be 'Learning Superheroes' and will talk about the 'Characteristics of Effective Learning' which is the Early Years equivalent of our school's 'Growth Mindset' (see link below for more details).
We will embed the school values into our daily life in Chestnut class; growing and learning together.
