Class R - Chestnut

Autumn term 2020

Nursery Rhymes

Week beginning 21st September

This week, we will be building in more structure to our day, starting with a morning challenge of writing our names. Those that can already do this will be learning how to use pre-cursive handwriting. We will continue teaching phonics and I will be putting together a phonics presentation online to show you how we teach phonics through the Read, Write inc. scheme and how we group the children. I will let you know when this is available. The phonemes we have covered so far are m, a, s, d, and t. Some children already know these so their group are working on blending to read cvc words and writing words.

We will introduce a 'funky fingers' session in the afternoon, where the children will do fine motor activities in small groups. During 'busy bee' time, we will be using play phrases - to encourage the children to interact with each other by talking and asking to play with new friends.

We would normally be preparing for harvest festival around this time of the year but even though we can't all celebrate together, we will be talking and learning about harvest in class.

If you haven't yet sent in a family photo for your child's peg, please do so. We are using this as a group speaking and listening activity.

We will be starting to upload snapshots of the children's learning to Tapestry - this will increase as we get into the term and once all of our baseline assessments have been done.
