Our Music Curriculum
Intent
The national curriculum states that ‘Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. A high-quality music education should engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement.’
At St Nicolas’, we believe that music is a powerful form of communication and creativity which brings together different cultures, abilities and generations. Music also has an impact on mental health and stress relief and teaches other life skills such as team work, self-discipline and confidence. Our intention is to provide a music curriculum which will enable each child to reach their full potential and to develop a lifelong love of music. Each child will go on their own musical journey and have their own unique experiences but we want our children to have the opportunity to explore music for themselves and become confident, reflective musicians either as listeners, composers or performers.
