Class 6 - Fir

Climate Change & Biomes - Autumn 2

Day 1 at The River Dart has been fantastic. The children were praised by members of the public and the bus driver for their excellent behaviour on the way. They thoroughly enjoyed getting muddier than they could ever have imagined, wading through the lake and swinging off ropes into water. We finished off the evening with a night hike around the beautiful grounds. The children are all settled in bed with tummies full of delicious food. We are all looking forward to caving, crate building and zip wiring tomorrow.

Day 2

We had a very busy day today. It started at 7.15am with dorm inspections, followed by a breakfast fit for a king. One of the activities was caving in Pridhamsleigh Cavern; a cave approximately 1.1km in length and 50m deep. The other activities of the day included zip wiring and crate building. In the evening, the children took part in a gymo course - orienteering in the dark. They were suitably tired, settled and ready for lights out by 9.15pm and looking forward to day 3.

Day 2 - Crate building, zip wiring, caving & more yummy desserts

Day 3

Teamwork shone through again in today's activities: hiking and rock climbing. The children's support for one another was really commendable and the beautiful sunshine added to the enjoyment of the day. In the evening the children built the most incredible dens by torchlight and were entertained by campfire songs under a starlit sky, which they sang until they ran out of voice. We are all looking forward to tomorrow's activities and cannot believe how quickly the time is flying by.

Day 3 - A riverside hike through glorious countryside in autumnal sunshine to the rock climb on Leigh Tor

Day 4

Our day started with the sun smiling down on us from the blue sky, followed by another hearty breakfast to fuel us for the challenges in store. The first activity for the day was to complete the 21 challenges on the high ropes; the children faced their fears and were incredible. They showed real teamwork; offering encouragement and support to one another all the way round. Fun and games during kayaking and canoeing, offered another opportunity to push the children out of their comfort zones on the water. Everybody got very very wet. The day ended with a scavenger hunt in the dark and ballet routines by torchlight.
